Coming up this sunday the 28th is a crucial clash against Bandon at Frogmore for the First XV. Come along and lend your support. Meanwhile the J2 team will go a long way towards clinching their section of the league if they can get something from their trip to Waterford City and the girls will be making the trip to Tipp for a very tough fixture against Clanwilliam.

Tuam 0 V Youghal 44
After a break of a fortnight on the 14th of November the Youghal Women’s XV made the long journey to Tuam to take on the locals in this AIL Division 2 fixture. There may have been frost on the ground but the visitors were on fire from the start with the backline particularly impressive as they completely dominated the opposition. A try from Caroline Griffin and two from Lucy Barry was a satisfactory return for some very enterprising play. At half time the scoreline was Tuam 0, Youghal 15. Despite being well on top, there was no sign of complacency as the second half began. If anything, Youghal stepped up the pressure as the forwards tightened their grip, effectively starving the opposition of any useful possession. The visitors added another four tries from Lucy Barry, Tamar Jayawardene, Kellie Faul and Kate Sheehan who also added nine points in the form of three conversions and a penalty. This was a comprehensive victory in which each and every member of the panel played their part. The try feast, of course ensured the bonus point as well. Team: J. Ryan, K. Faul, T. Coady, J. With two home games scheduled for the First XV and the Seconds at the weekend we were all hoping for a return to winning ways. The J2 team were first in action when they welcomed Carrick-on-Suir to Frogmore for a league game on Saturday the 6th.
This game was highly entertaining in that the try count high. The home team never looked in any danger of losing this one mainly due to the quality of play of the more experienced members of the team. The final scoreling was 36 v 12.
The J1 league match at home to Kanturk on Sunday was a far more intense game with Youghal in control of the ball for most of the first half but unable to translate this into points on the board. Kanturk, totally against the run of play, drew first blood when they knocked over a penalty on their first visit to the Youghal half of the field after 11 minutes. It wasn't until the 23rd minute that a Jonathan Ormonde try got the home team onto the scoreboard after some exciting running rugby from backs and forwards alike. Kanturk were quick to respond with a second penalty on 30 mins to leave the scores close at 5 V 6 at half time.
The second half saw Youghal retain the initiative but things went badly wrong from the 55th minute after Roy MacArdle was "binned". After some excellent straight running in midfield a loose ball was pounced on by the Kanturk defence who had the support runners in place to ensure they got in for the breakaway try. By the 68th minute the visitors were really turning the screw when they tacked on a great drop goal and shortly after, a severe case of "deja vu" occurred when Kanturk got their second breakaway try when the ball was again intercepted.
Youghal went back on the attack and were rewarded for some solid forward play when Gary MacArdle crashed over between the posts for their second try. Keith McCarthy converted. With a couple of minutes remaining Kanturk kicked a penalty to close out the game for a 12 v 26 final scoreline.

The First XV, Second XV and the Women's XV all have tough fixtures away this weekend. Following on from their defeat away to Muskerry last week, the Junior 1 side have a fixture away to Galbally, under lights, this evening at 18.30. It feels like there is no respite, as Galbally are considered one of the favourites for the title this year. This Youghal team can battle however, as they proved at the end of last season, so they will travel, knowing that they are capable of causing an upset.
The Second's have a Kelly Cup fixture away to Kanturk, where the home team are always difficult to beat. The Women's team have to travel to Tralee, to face the team that pipped them to take their section of the league last season. The girls need to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Young Munster last sunday (Match Report )Any positives from any of these games would be most welcome.
