A much improved performance from the First XV in their away fixture in the Munster Junior Cup last Sunday was not enough, but should certainly give a boost to the confidence for the league games coming up.
Newcastle West beat the visitors on the try rule 3-1 after the sides finished level 22-22 after extra time at the West Limerick venue. Newcastle West raced into an early 12-0 lead with tries from John Sheehan and James Kelly and a conversion by Sean Neville. A try by Alan Frahill-O’Connor and a conversion and penalty by Aaron Daly was not enough for Youghal who trailed 15-10 at half time. Neville added a second penalty for the home side.
A drop goal and penalty by Daly and a drop goal and penalty by Keith McCarthy saw Youghal take a 22-15 lead but minutes from time Sean McAuliffe scored a try for Newcastle West and Alan Roche converted to send the game into extra time. Both sides had their chances to win it in the extra twenty minutes but there was no further scoring and it is a home tie for Newcastle West against Shannon in Round Four.
There is a big menu of entertainment scheduled for the coming weekend with home fixtures for the U 19's against Midleton, the Women's team play Bandon, the Second XV have a cup tie against Kinsale and the First XV are back in league action against Newport. The U 17's also have a home fixture against Crosshaven on Saturday morning and the U 15's make the short journey to Midleton.

The Youghal First XV will be hopeing to bounce back this coming sunday having suffered a heavy defeat to Killarney on Monday in the league. They have a very difficult away Munster Junior Cup tie against Newcastle West and will need to bring their best form to have any chance of advancing to the next round.
