Dear Club Member/ Past Member/ Friend,

The club’s dressing rooms have not been upgraded for in excess of 30 years and now fall well below the standard expected. While the clubhouse has undergone development, unfortunately the dressing room facilities need major development. The existing boiler system is well outdated and will need replacing in the very near future at substantial cost. A sub-committee of the Executive Committee of the club was set up in 2010 to take forward possible dressing room development and to apply for funding under the Sports Capital Grant programme. Planning permission was obtained for a new dressing room building and tenders were received from local builders.

The application for a Sports Capital Grant was made for approx. €280,000. The club were awarded €100,000 under the programme for the dressing room project. This was one of the highest amounts awarded to any club or organisation in the country but it still leaves the club in the situation that we have to find the balance of funds from other sources. From tenders received it is clear that the full cost of the project will be in the region of €190,000 - €200,000.

The Sports Capital Grant rules that the €100,000 grant can only be spent on the project applied for. We feel that it would be an absolute last option to decline €100,000 grant. Therefore the club have to raise the balance of funds.

The new dressing room building will contain 4 separate dressing rooms with multiple shower heads, 2 referees changing rooms (male and female) and medical room each with access to toilets. This will allow the club to provide facilities to allow more minis, underage, ladies and men’s games to take place.

An application was made to the IRFU for a 10 year 1% interest loan and members of the subcommittee met with IRFU officials in Dublin. The maximum amount available of €60,000 was obtained. .

The balance of the development funds can be borrowed from the credit union but the IRFU will provide an interest subsidy so that effectively the interest rate for those additional borrowings will also be at 1%. Our target for fundraising is €40,000. It is planned to commence building of the dressing rooms on or before April 2nd 2014.

Fundraising and Finance
The club needs to raise these funds over the next 4 months. Therefore we are asking members, past members and friends of the club to contribute to a once off fundraising drive for the sole purpose of completing the dressing rooms. We have never before asked for such a once off contribution and, because of the clubhouse and pitch facilities, we feel that we will not have to return to the members in such a way again for a long time. We fully appreciate that we live in difficult times and that the fundraising will not be easy, but we believe that by putting these facilities in place in our 50th anniversary year, it will put the club in a great position for the next 50 years. The sub-committee have ensured that, once the fundraising drive reaches the target, the club will not be exposed to higher monthly loan repayments than it currently pays. In fact, because of the much lower interest rates, the monthly repayments will be lower than the current commitment. A direct debit facility over 4 months will be available for those who wish to contribute by this means.

The fundraising package is as follows:

Option 1.

For a contribution of €300 the member / friend of the club will be;
(i) entered into the club’s weekly lotto for one year;
(ii) provided with 10 tickets to the IRFU draw;

All of this €200 will be used exclusively for the proposed dressing room development (except if IRFU draw tickets are no longer available and then €75 will go into the general club finances).

Option 3.

For a contribution of €100 the member / friend of the club will be;
(i) entered into the club’s weekly lotto for one year;
(ii) Regular Texts detailing First XV Fixtures for 1 year

Of the €300 in this option €225 will be used exclusively for the proposed dressing room development and the €75 membership amount will go into the general club finances. Details of the IRFU Draw are available at www.irfu.ie.
