Youghal 42 V 0 Dungarvan

        There may have been a chill in the air at Frogmore but the Youghal women’s XV gave their supporters a scorching display in the sides opening game of 2012.  They went into the game hell for leather with Kate Sheehan giving the home side the opening seven points as she shimmied through the Dungarvan defence. The home team didn’t let up, and further dented the opposition confidence with the experienced Tamar Jayawardene running in an impressive individual try from her own half giving the home side an early 12-0 lead. Dungarvan, to their credit, went on to up their intensity forcing the home side defend their own try line for what seemed like an eternal 10minutes, Youghal’s ambitious forwards hampered Dungarvan’s attempts with Ailbhe Ní Lionsaigh  in just her second competitive rugby game, showing the composure of a pro when settling her side by kicking to touch. Throughout Youghal’s ability to do the basics right stood in their favour when winger Deirdre Cronin received the ball following some swift passes she set off up the side-line to lift the siege. Youghal increased their lead by a further five points with Lucy Barry touching down after Youghal broke the defensive line of Dungarvan’s solid pack. This left the half-time score comfortably in the home side’s favour at Youghal-22 Dungarvan-0.

          Dungarvan were unable to raise their game in the second half as Youghal were determined not to let them back into the game as they went on to score a further four tries  from Deirdre Cronin, Tamar Jayawardene, Kate Sheehan and Ailbhe Ní Lionsaigh. The Youghal defence remained intact throughout  leaving the final score Youghal-42 Dungarvan-0.

After  such a dominant display Youghal will be looking to retain the magic in their remaining league outings.
